Pastor's Words to Couples
Friends:
The people of Sausalito Presbyterian Church wish you every blessing as you mark your commitment to marriage with a wedding at our church!
We view marriage as a spiritual bond manifested in outward actions. Your relationship is a unique expression of this bond, and so our church does not have one standard way of conducting a wedding. Each service is different, reflecting the special story that brought you to our church's altar.
I look forward to meeting with you soon! I come into this encounter with you with the presumption that you are ready for marriage: my counsel is for the purpose of enriching your relationship and helping you prepare a ceremony that is appropriate for you.
Our church follows the way of Jesus, and his inspiration leads us to show great respect for people who follow ways to God other than our own. We look at the Christian faith as a free gift to the world, not as a belief system to be imposed on everyone. In this spirit of religious pluralism we hope that you and those who attend your wedding will feel uplifted and respected in our sanctuary, regardless of faith backgrounds. We especially encourage interfaith or intercultural couples to include elements of each others' traditions into their ceremonies. May the beauty and the symbols of our sanctuary reflect back to you the sacredness of your marriage, no matter what your religious heritage or lack of it.
