BRIDGE THE GAP is a youth tutoring program located in Marin City California. We pair disadvantaged students with motivated adults in one-to-one tutoring relationships.
These tutoring relationships give students the self-confidence to learn, help students build skills for success, and improve relationships within our communities
SPC community members Denni Locke and Bob Hunter, partnering with Pastor Fred Small of the Marin City Church of God, started Bridge The Gap Tutoring in 1995 with a handful of students and tutors at Pastor Small's church.
With the help of generous funding from Sausalito Presbyterian Church, the Marin Community Foundation, and various local organizations, the program gradually expanded. In 1998 Bridge The Gap gained the services of an on-site teacher, and in 2004, the help of a project coordinator.
Today the program serves approximately 40 students from the Marin City Community. We continue to receive funding from the Sausalito Presbyterian Church and other local organizations and individuals. In the 2005-2006 school year our volunteers will donate over 4,000 fun hours to our project.
